Pre-order the EVO Linux Game Console. Wait...what?

While I'm not a big Linux evangelist, today's news of an alternative gaming console (Linux-based or otherwise) got my attention. As a boy I was often told that having options is better than having no choice at all, so you can imagine my delight at a fourth console option...until I looked at the specs.
Sure, the EVO Smart Console from Envizions has some nostalgia-inducing Amiga games, and will probably play older versions of Unreal Tournament just fine. The real test with the EVO will be what newer games they can add to the library, and how well they run on the hardware provided.
EVO Smart Console specs:
- AMD Athlon 64x2 5600 CPU @ 2.4GHz
- ATI HD 3200 video chipset
- 2GB of RAM
- 120GB hard drive
- Fedora quick-boot distribution
- SD card reader (for games)
- Optical drive
- Playstation-like controller
Shipping in June, pricing for the EVO is between $280 and $350, which to me is a bit much considering the relatively light hardware. I'll reserve judgment until I see some benchmark results. Whatever your gaming needs, we have plenty of gaming news and reviews for you to read and ponder.
