Nielsen's "The State of the Video Gamer" Report Surprises, States Obvious
Nielsen just released their gamer trends report in "The State of the Video Gamer," a study of gamers usage habits with the three major consoles: the Xbox 360, PS3 and Nintendo Wii.Among the obvious findings were that people who vowed to turn their Wii into a Tai Chi-Bowflex-Yoga (TaiBogaflex?) machine haven't quite lost the "baby fat" and holiday poundage they intended. Waving and gyrating those "chuckmotes" is tiring!
The somewhat surprising findings are below the fold, so to speak.
Of the three major consoles, Xbox 360 owners got the most use from their console with an average of 11.4 percent of their time devoted to gaming and other 360-related pursuits. Second place went to PS3 users, who devoted 10.6 percent of their time to gaming, and third place went to...
Xbox console owners, who still used their original Xbox consoles 10.2 percent of the time. Naturally, Wii owners came in fourth place, right? No. PS2 owners used their consoles more than their Wii-loving counterparts. Wii owners, due to reasons both aforementioned and unknown, use their consoles a meager 6.8 percent of the time.
