Of all the project management programs, Clarizen uses an email-style look to manage projects in a simple, almost one-click interface. Clarizen runs online from a web server instead of downloading onto your computer, also known as an SaaS (software as a service). Using an online service, project managers and employees can log into and work on the project anytime, anywhere they can access the Internet.
We were impressed with Clarizen’s extremely easy-to-use interface and project management capabilities. The learning curve for Clarizen in minimal. Clarizen wins our “TopTenREVIEWS Bronze Award” for incorporating a variety of features with a user-friendly interface that encourages complete team adoption. Clarizen has powerful project managing tools, but more importantly, accommodates the variety of users in a dynamic and diverse team.
Each employee involved in a Clarizen project has access and continual updates for his needs, determined by settings put in place by the project manager. Between real-time updates and email notifications, internal and external resources, project managers and CEOs can all see the progress of the project, the tasks already completed, the critical areas in need of help, and the tasks allocated to each resource. If a task becomes a risk or is past due, the project manager receives an automated email notification. This helps keep the manager current on progress without even logging on to Clarizen. Projects created in Microsoft Project can also be integrated with Clarizen, and vice-versa. Clarizen now has an Outlook Plug-in so users can also integrate their tasks with Microsoft Outlook. For further collaboration, team members can have asynchronous discussions, write wiki-style notes, and share documents.
Clarizen lets you add or delete resources for the entire project or just a given task; either option will notify the project manager of the change via email. Adding resources can be done immediately with no waiting period. Employees can also be added from inside the company or as external resources. External resources can have full access to the project management software or only a limited view, customized to their specific needs. Clarizen also lets you view tasks assigned to individual resources, which reports if they’re overloaded or under-worked. This feature lets you allocate tasks between resources efficiently, maximizing productivity within your team.
