Celoxis is a browser-based project management program that runs from Celoxis' server or can be installed into your company’s private server. At first glance, this product looks more appealing than some of the higher-ranked products based on price. $14.95 per user per month is a lot less expensive than the $30.00 some similar programs charge. Unfortunately, Celoxis simply doesn’t have the number of quality features our higher-ranked products have.
Celoxis includes forums to better allow team members to relate their questions, concerns or comments on a project. The system also includes email services that can compliment your current email client by allowing you to email tasks and comments to other team members. When tasks become delinquent, automatic emails notify the project manager. This keeps users current with the project without logging into Celoxis. Projects created in Microsoft Project can also be integrated with Celoxis, and vice-versa.
Celoxis includes an address book as well as user login status within the project management software. The address book lets you edit resources, email contacts and add notes specific to a user or client. This feature is useful when determining which resources have the skills required to accomplish given tasks. Documents and discussions are easily accessible; however it isn’t very easy to calculate materials that will be needed for tasks and projects.
Celoxis includes lead and lag time, a useful management feature. Lead time allows you to begin portions of future projects that rely on completed portions of current projects. Lag time helps to compensate for the lag between the completion of one project and the start of the next. The Watched Tasks section lets you view specific tasks and track their progress, an excellent option for clients who want to see how their project is progressing.
A feature missing in Celoxis is the ability to create recurring tasks. For example, there is no way to schedule a weekly meeting.
Celoxis is well-designed and easy to use, especially with their new user-friendly interface. The dashboard is completely customizable, letting you easily place links, assign tasks or even financial reports right where you need them.
One shortcoming is that you cannot add tasks to the Gantt schedule view. Also, it can become time-consuming and tedious to add many tasks to the system.
Celoxis offers a user manual, FAQs and email and phone support. Since Celoxis is based in India, phone support can become somewhat pricey. The user manual contains useful information, but the layout can be confusing. Celoxis runs on all recent Windows, Mac and Linux operating systems.
Overall, Celoxis appears to be much cheaper than some other browser-based project management programs. If you add twenty or thirty users, the rate drops to $7.95 a month per user. However, the costs add up. For larger teams, one of our higher-ranked products is a better economic solution—and comes with more features.Such as @task, Daptiv PPM and Clarizen.
